This is my military ID card. I joined the U.S. Marine Corps right after high school, back in 2002. When I first joined the Marine Corps I just wanted to go and see other places. I am originally from a very small town in China and our family is not rich, so I never had money to travel. I never really expected to go to other foreign countries.
My first station was in Japan. Although China shares a similar culture with Japan we are still very different. We were stationed right in the middle of Mount Fuji, two hours away from Tokyo.
My family doesn’t like me moving around very much. My sister is married and she moved away, and I am the only one living with my parents. It is the tradition in my culture for the children to stay with their parents. I would like to move somewhere else someday, but I also have the responsibility to take care of my parents, so this is a conflict. Right now I plan to stay with them. After school maybe I can find a job in another place and gain experience, and then I will return.
