FAQ
Who can participate?
This project aims to break down barriers between young people from the United States and from Muslim-majority nations. Participants from Muslim-majority countries do not have to be Arab or Muslim. Participants from the US do not have to be non-Muslim or born in the US. The world is a complex place and there is great diversity of ethnicity, race and religion in the east and the west. Hopefully this project will help to reflect some of this diversity!
How do I participate?
- Pick an object that represents something important to you.
- Take a digital photo of yourself with the object
- Write a brief (one paragraph or less) description about what the object represents for you.
- Submit your photo and explanation on the “submit” page!
What should I share?
It can really be ANYTHING. If the environment is important to you, take a picture with a tree. If humor is important to you, take a picture of yourself holding a rubber chicken! Be creative. Be funny. Pick something that other people might never guess you are passionate about.
Most importantly, share an interesting anecdote about yourself. Tell us why you like the things you like or hate the things you hate. Be open and honest! The point is we want to see you as a real human being!
What if I don’t want a picture of my face on the Internet?
That’s ok. If it is possible, take a photo of just your hands holding the object.
Do I have to share my full name?
No! Only first names will be published!
How else can I be involved?
Leave a comment for other participants! Anyone who submits will be interested to see what others have to say about what they have shared, so take a few seconds and offer some words of encouragement.
I have a question or comment about the project.
Great! Just fill out the form on the site and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Will this project be translated?
As much as possible we will try and translate the project so that more people can participate. If this is something you can help with, let us know!
